( A Miyamoto Kano that I liked a lot, three more short manga that I liked, and I coule that I didn't )

Ok, rec me something, anything, if you've seen a fic that fits these requirements.

See, I'm in the mood for Headmaster!Snape. The only thing I don't want to read is a DH-era fic -- I don't want to see him being a Headmaster who's also supposedly a Death Eater. No.

It could be an AU where he's the headmaster at some other time.

It could be after DH ends, and for some reason Snape survived, and he's continuing on as the Headmaster.

I'm just really interested in seeing Severus in that job/role but NOT while he's having to pretend to be on the dark side. Snape is good. We love Snape.

Where is Headmaster!Snape???

Yes, I know, let the mass de-friending begin, but this makes me so very, very happy. I really wish I had more refined taste. Alas, no. ;D

And in more news of things that make me happy, although I'm sick with a summer cold that has completely wiped me out and I feel as limp as a dishrag, I have been very excited about the bidding going on over at livelongnmarry. It's inspiring to see the outpouring of love and support in every offering and the excitement in every bid that's posted. *This* is what I love about fandom. People are offering to help in any way they can. There is something for everyone there in all price ranges. And people who aren't in a position to bid have been contributing to the cause with offers of their own. It feels good to do something so positive and uplifting.

I understand that some people are worried about drawing too much attention to fandom, but there are offers for jewelry, original fiction, baked goods, care packages, and tons of other non-fandom related items. And the offers just keep on coming. It's been such a pleasure to watch all the excitement even if I can barely keep my eyes open.

Neat e-freak that I am, I put up a page of my favourite yaoi and manga at my site. Two masterlists; everything I enjoy is to be added there.

Today's menu: ( one mammoth that I liked, a oneshot that squicked me half to death, and a couple of manga that were neither here nor there for me )

Because my f-list knows everything and has been everywhere--Has anyone ever been to Eastern Media Con 2008? Anyone have any idea what the con is like? I've heard it's pretty slash friendly!

A bunch of HP fans are meeting up that weekend to see naked Dan Equus in New York City on October 4th and also attending the con that weekend. If you're going to the con or Equus that weekend, want to have a meet-up somewhere in the city?

I really wanted to do that now that canon's closed and have been, lately, (when I'm not reading fic or doing other things) and I'm enjoying it quite a lot! I hadn't reread books 1-5 since 2004 and it's great doing it now from a fandom perspective (yay, subtext!) and also, especially, seeing if what I consider canon characterisation about various characters is actually canon or if some of it is influenced by fanon and how much. It's also great how everything (well, most things anyway) is now clear regarding the plot. There are things that don't quite make sense, of course - well, it's Rowling ;-) - but I love noticing details I had forgotten all about like Sirius's hair being elbow-length (eee!!) when he escaped from Azkaban. I should be taking some notes but I'm too lazy for that. Mostly I like that now that I know how the series ends I can concentrate on characters' interactions. I'm not sure I will feel like rereading HBP and DH but I hope to at least get up to OotP. Halfway through PoA now - I always loved that book!

Oh, and this: "Why couldn't Black have hidden in Snape's office, eh? He could have finished him off for us!" (Ron after Snape gave him a nasty detention. PoA, Grim Defeat chapter.)

Please tell me there's fic out there for that! It could be an excellent Snack. :D

Hello, everyone!

This was a spectacular selection of fics, and a banner year for the number of entries! Thanks to everyone who participated. This is a great fandom.

As you all know, djin7 & reddwarfer  are both mods at Walking the Plank.  aliciamasters (that's me!) is lucky enough to be the headmistress.  Therefore, we would be honored and overjoyed if you decided to host your fic at Walking the Plank, now that the fest is over. 

We have created TWO TEAM open series under djin7's name, one for Team Dragon and one for Team Phoenix.

Due to the tremendous team spirit, we have also added two other series: 2008 Comment Porn, under RaeWhit, and 2008 Opening & Closing Ceremonies, which can include all the wonderful extras posted on the comm.

If you've never hosted at Walking the Plank, it is a moderated community of Snarry fanfiction and fanart.

Are you fascinated by Walking the Plank? We are always looking for volunteers, both as mods and technical support. Here are the volunteering guidelines. I was very lucky to be a mod on this contest, and I'm amazed at the talent in our fandom!  Meanwhile, I hope you will consider WTP a home for your art.If you agreed to archiving, but you don't have time to upload, I will contact you to arrange a mod upload. I'd love to have a complete set of Champions. (Hint, hint, Earlier Champions! We still have a few stories & artwork missing!)   REMEMBER:  if something is stopping you, please feel free to contact me.  Maybe we can work it out.



Special Note: the WTP mods are having a Snarry Games fic & art AMNESTY for July. We will be offering to help upload fic and art by posting on the original post, and will also accept requests on this post. We want to have all the 2006, 2007 and 2008 series completed by the end of August, if the champions are willing. My notes: this is my favourite manga of all (well, so far). I love it to bits and pieces. ( You've probably read manga where the drawing technique was better, more elaborate, unique in the end. You've possibly read manga with a much more solid, tight storyline. I find though that it doesn't really matter. A story doesn't have to be perfect to be utterly enticing. And Pet Shop of Horrors (further PSOH) is. So. Freaking. Charming. )

Summary: The elite Cosmo Academy attracts applicants from every stellar nation in the galaxy. One young hopeful is Tadatos Lane, an orphan esper from Terra. The final stage of the academy's entrance exam is a perilous mission simulation aboard an actual derelict starship. The applicants depart for the ships in groups of ten, but when Tada's crew arrives on the Esperanza, they are horrified to discover that they now number eleven. As the test progresses, things go awry and the atmosphere grows increasingly tense. The crew members begin to suspect sabotage, and Tada appears to be the likely culprit.

My notes: there are several obstacles to overcome but if you do, this is a really captivating, wonderful story! Those obstacles are: a) the quality of the scan: it's a simple scan of the licensed English version, not cleaned at all; b) it reads left to right. I got terribly confused at the beginning and kept trying to read every other page in the wrong order. Then there are my personal misgivings: Sci-Fi is, arguably, my least favourite genre. "Space ship" for me is like "watersports" for some :) It doesn't mean that I won't enjoy a Sci-Fi story. It means that I'm extremely reluctant to read it. Parlophone told me how nice this story was and gave me the link to go read it. I went there, saw the bad scans and wrinkled my nose in displeasure. I decided to save all the pages to my computer to read at my leisure, using my keyboard for navigation, and got hooked while doing it!

The summary above is sufficient, so I want only to share my thoughts. I think this manga is a good example of coherent storytelling. You'll say "well, duh" but really, how many truly coherent manga I've read recently? Not many. Add to this that They were Eleven has a wonderful balance of humour, suspense, and angst, a fine balance between plot and character development, and you'll get a fine manga to read. The drawing is old-fashioned, but then it's a more than 30-year-old work! But the style overall is very pleasant, as for me. Give it a try!
